Review: September 2016 OwlCrate

I’m back again with another OwlCrate review! I love this subscription box so much, I could marry it. This is the September “Darkness” themed box and it was a-maz-ing as always. Once again, they managed to send me a book that had been on my wishlist since well before it was released – bravo, guys! It also included a mini-candle, a bath bomb, and some other stuff. Candles – bravo again! I adore candles. Possibly even more than Funkos. They go with my decor better, anyway, haha.

This month’s book was Three Dark Crowns, by Kendare Blake (who also wrote the Anna Dressed in Blood that I’ve become obsessed with reading before October is out, thank-you-all-the-50-people-that-have-it-on-your-Halloween-Read-A-Thon-list). I literally had this book in my Amazon cart and was bravely resisting the temptation to buy, and then this happened. Very happy bookworm. The Miss-Peregrine’s inspired pouch on the top right is from Out of Print – it’s a lovely, sturdy canvas. I have got to get to that book…one day. The Six of Crows inspired bookmark is designed by the amazing Evie Seo (Evie Bookish) – yet another book I still need to read! The little “passport” book is a mini-coloring book/excerpt from a soon-to-be-released novel.

Then there is the Celaena’s Cake candle, by The Melting Library – obviously inspired by the Throne of Glass series (which I still haven’t read, but I know the character names!). THIS THING SMELLS SO FREAKING GOOD! I haven’t lit it yet, but I like just leaving it open on my desk. Haha.

Then there is this awesome little…mini-book? Pamphlet? Anyway, it’s a printed version of the first “episode” of Remade, a series by The Serial Box. Such an awesome idea, and a throwback to the days of Charles Dickens, Wilkie Collins, Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, and other famous serial authors. I was rather disappointed that this seems to be a one-off solely for OwlCrate, as their serials are all available only electronically. It’s such a cute little thing, I was envisioning lines of them across my bookshelf…anywho. Still an awesome idea! They have several ongoing series at the moment. ALSO, check out that AMAZING bath bomb!! It’s by Da Bomb Fizzers, and inspired by The Raven Cycle. It looks so cool I’m afraid to use it.

All in all another TOTAL win for OwlCrate! I can’t wait to see next month’s box…this is the teaser for it. I had to include both sides this time because…well.

Review: July 2016 OwlCrate

I’m never sure when to post these, as I hate being spoiler-ific, but at the same time…it needs to be put up in time for people to decide if they want to sign up for the next box! In my opinion, anyway. Whenever I’m looking at subscription boxes I want to see the month prior. Anywho – here we go!

July’s OwlCrate theme was Good vs. Evil, and they sent out two versions of the box! Same book, different goodies. I received the Evil box!

Opening it up…

Review - July 2016 Owlcrate1

This month’s book was This Savage Song, by Victoria Schwab. I’m excited because I have wanted to read something by her ever since The Near Witch came out but sadly have never gotten around to it! Now I have no excuse, because her latest is in my hot little hands. It’s getting rave reviews, too. Really need to bump it closer to the top of my TBR list.

Also included were the amazing little coloring book there on the right, full of black and whites of a mix of popular and up-and-coming YA title covers. Awesome idea. Loved it.

Then there was a TOTALLY AMAZING bookmark fromΒ Jane’s Tiny ThingsΒ (I have a magnetic bookmark obsession right now and might have already ordered more from her shop…).

Next there was an awesome wooden necklace from Vector Engraving – mine was the Death Star, but the Good box had a Millennium Falcon. πŸ˜€ Hehe. Also, a FULL SIZE Harry Potter FUNKO POP!! I love Funkos. I would like to collect them but don’t have a really good place for them right now and am not a huge fan of them on my bookshelves, despite the adorable setups of them that I see on OTHER people’s book shelves. So I have refrained…mostly. I think I have 5 now. And of course since this is my 2nd Harry Potter Funko I reeeeeeally need the others in that lineup. Sigh. There’s also a “Am I Not Merciful” sticker that I think references Iluminae, but since I haven’t read it the significance is somewhat lost on me. *embarrassed face*

August’s theme is Fast Times at YA High! “This box will contain a hilarious love story, as well as items inspired by our favorite high school sweethearts, and our favorite school of all time…HOGWARTS!” As of right now there are still spots available. For various reasons I’ve elected to skip this box, but I’m eagerly waiting to see what September’s theme will be and will be back then with a review. πŸ™‚

I review this box based on my own paying subscription.

Review: June 2016 OwlCrate

Now for the pictures and all the awesome details of the amazing OwlCrate box! As I mentioned, I’ve been a subscriber for quite some time, and while I’ve posted some unboxing photos on my Instagram, I’ve never written a full review of the box! Shame on me. So here we go!

DSCN0791

It comes to your mailbox looking like this. I practically do a happy dance in the mailroom every time I pick one up!

DSCN0793

Dun-dun-dun! Isn’t it pretty? My cat really appreciates all the crinkly paper, by the way. He photobombed the first attempt at this photo trying to get to it.

The full contents! Now, here is what made me realize that I really, really don’t want to ever unsubscribe: the book they chose for this month, was one that I had added to my TBR list just a little over a week ago. And? This is the second time OwlCrate has managed to do this to me. They’re that good.

List of contents:

Book (most important, right?): My Lady Jane, by Cynthia Hand, Brodi Ashton, and Jodi Meadows. I’ll have to confess I’ve not read anything by any of these ladies, but the premise of My Lady Jane sounded so fascinated it went on my list straight away. One of my (many) favorite things about the OwlCrate box is the author’s note that they always include with the books. It makes it feel so special, and I really like hearing the author’s thoughts on the book and whatever else they decide to add. I read the note and keep it inside the book on my shelf.

Such nice touch!

Such a nice touch!

Extras (because they are always awesome!):

A Funko Pop Mystery Mini! From the Disney Princess collection. I love Funko Pops so much. Disney I’m not quite as crazy about, but somehow I managed to get the mini from what has to be my favorite recent Disney movie (btw, if anyone got Merida and doesn’t want her…*hinthint*):

“Brave,” if you were wondering. Because who doesn’t love a fiery Scottish princess turning her mum and 3 little brothers (of which this is one) into bears?

A bee-yoo-ti-ful bracelet from the very talented Jami Butler at RichLoveShoppe.

DSCN0798

Yes. Be jealous.

Awesomely adorable bookmarks from Crafted Van. I really need the coffee set. Also the cats. All the cats. But can you please add orange or orange and white kitties? πŸ˜€

So stinkin’ cute!

In something of a departure from what they’ve done in the past, also included was a $10 off coupon to My Bookmark…which, I will be completely honest – I’m using as soon as I get done writing this review. Because OMG. I need one.

Look. At. These. (photo from the My Bookmark site)

Also with (no individual pics, but they are all in the contents photo) a cute little paper crown, which I think was a great touch for those with eager young readers that aren’t quite of age for a box of their own. The Red Queen quote print is beautifully done on a heavy cardstock, suitable for framing or hanging however you like. As usual, there were coupons from all the contributors to the box and a sneak-peek at the next OwlCrate (the card almost hidden under everything on the right in the full content picture). The awesome book choice and the sneak-peek for next month together just sent me over the edge. I’ll be subscribing to OwlCrate for a long time to come!

Now if you want to get yours Β – and there is still time to sign up for the July box, which reportedly includes another Funko (squee!) and is themed Good or Evil – click through here and sign up! The referral will get me a discount on my subscription, hehe.

This box was bought by me and this review is completely honest and unsolicited – I received no compensation whatsoever, just wanted to share my favorite subscription box!

Coming Soon: OwlCrate!

I got my June OwlCrate box today! And let’s just say…I’ve been subscribing for 6 months, and loved every single month. However, after the May box (which was great!) I decided to cancel in June because I wanted to try another sub box.

Um. No. After this box, and the teaser insert for NEXT month’s box, my happy little self went right back to the OwlCrate website and resubscribed. Full review coming in a few days, after I’m pretty certain of not spoiling it for anyone.

If this is enough to tempt you into subscribing, please use my referral code…I think it means I get a discount on my next box!
