Ladies and gentleman.
Always, always, always back up your files in at least two, preferably three or more, locations.
Especially when you’ve put 20,000 words into a new story in the past 3 days. And your flash drive, on which is stored about 10 years of your life, does this weird sort of bendy thing and then blinks at you strangely.
It is probably unnecessary to say that my muse fled and has not returned.

When I first read this, I just sat with my mouth hanging farther and farther open. I can’t believe it all got wiped out! I am so, so sorry to hear it. Is there anything you can do to recover it?

We did actually manage to recover the files, after many tears and throwing a few things. Apparently I broke one of the four connectors and jerked the other three out of their sockets, or whatever. I (with Adam’s help) got them to touch long enough to rip the files onto my harddrive.
Still, see if I ever have my files on ONE drive only again. 😛

I am so happy to hear it! And, yes, I know what you mean – just hearing about your disaster has had me copying all of my files to two different places. :-S
